FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

How does a patient qualify for medical treatment in Cuba?

Qualification for treatment depends on the following:

  • The availability of medical treatments for patients’ specific medical profile. CubaHeal will require the full medical diagnosis and treatment reports (when applicable), which will be forwarded to the relevant healthcare authorities and medical teams for further determination of eligibility and best treatment program
  • Visa qualifications: CubaHeal will direct, facilitate, and assist you in visa application. Upon approval, CubaHeal will direct the patient to the best available travel route.
How long will it take for the Cuban medical team to conclude their initial assessment for treatment?

Each medical case is unique. From our experience and depending on the speed we receive the English or Spanish translated medical and diagnosis reports, it usually takes between 10-14 business days (excluding national and religious holidays) for the Cuban Medical Authorities to provide a final assessment and decision regarding treatment. We will keep the patient, or the individual acting on behalf of the patient, informed every step of the way of where we are in the process. If the patient is approved for treatment, such approval will be in a form of a treatment program, which will promptly be forwarded to the patient.

How expensive is the treatment in Cuba?

Visitors to Cuba for medical care testify that treatments, (which include, hospital stays and treatment at some of the world’s most prestigious healthcare facilities, accommodations, meals, recovery, and recuperation for the patient and a companion), are considered to be at about 40 to 60 percent less expensive than the cost of treatment in their home countries.

What information will the treatment program include?

Questions from Caribbean patients and families

How do I start a treatment enquiry from my country?

Use our patient enquiry page and tell us your country of residence, the medical concern and whether you are enquiring for yourself or a relative. Our team can explain the records needed for the next stage. A clinical decision requires review by the relevant medical team.

Should I book flights before receiving a treatment proposal?

Request confirmation of the proposed medical visit and its dates before committing to flights or accommodation. A general enquiry does not confirm admission. Discuss any flexibility you may need if appointments or the length of your stay change.

Are travel arrangements the same for every Caribbean country?

No. Departure routes, transit arrangements and documentation depend on your departure country, nationality and itinerary. Confirm the requirements that apply to you with the relevant authorities and transport providers before booking. Ask our team which practical arrangements can be coordinated for your visit.

Can a family member travel with me?

Tell us at the enquiry stage if you plan to bring a companion. Request written confirmation of accommodation, meals, transfers and any other companion services, including their costs. Patient and companion arrangements should be checked separately.

What should I confirm about the quotation and payment?

Ask for a written breakdown of the proposed services, the payment currency, payment instructions, exclusions and applicable cancellation or refund terms. Confirm whether flights, insurance, companion expenses or additional tests are included before making a payment.

How should I prepare for care after returning home?

Ask the treating medical team what follow-up is recommended and which records you should take home. Arrange to share the discharge summary and recommendations with your usual clinician. Any further travel or remote follow-up should be discussed with the treating team.

Browse the medical programs to identify the service you would like to discuss.
