POSTGRADUATE MEDICAL, STEMMATOLOGICAL/ DENTAL, AND NURSING PROGRAMS

Cuba has 13 medical science universities, as well as multiple postgraduate (CEP) and health research centers, which offer the possibility of satisfying professional training and improvement programs that meet the needs of governments, institutions, groups or individuals.

INTRODUCTION TO THE REPUBLIC OF CUBA’S MEDICAL POSTGRADUATE PREOGRAMS:

Accreditation:

The Cuban academic institutions are authorized to issue university certifications of all academic levels. Such authorization is granted via the legal mechanisms established by the Cuban State for such purposes, and under the direction of a dean of said recognized academic faculties. This is done via the National Accreditation System, whereby, in each university campus, the certification is applied upon the successful completion of various national syllabuses relating to the various medical training and postgraduate studies.

General information:

The Republic of Cuba offers postgraduate medical training in more than fifty (50) medical, five (5) stemmatological, and three (3) nursing specialties. These programs are offered to graduates of relevant careers. In addition, the Republic of Cuba offers various masters degrees to foreign students, and five (5) different types of doctoral programs in health sciences

Furthermore, Cuba’s universities offer a vast number of outreach activities and program intended to meet the validation requirements and validation of various countries and international academic facilities. This is done by offering a vast number of courses, training, internships and practical training activities.

CubaHeal Medical Tourism Inc (CubaHeal) is commissioned by Cuban Academic Services Authorities (CASA) to offer facilitation services in the field of academic health services in the Republic of Cuba to students.

The requests are made personally through the mail: ed.admin@cubaheal-caribbean.com .

Once your request has been sent, you will be informed of such transmission to CASA via CubaHeal team, and subsequently, and if approved, you will receive the letter of acceptance from the University of Medical Sciences you are assigned to.

The interested party must respond shortly if he/she accepts the assigned university or not. Once you agree with the location that has been possible, the management of this university, along with CubaHeal field team in the Republic of Cuba, will be in charge of establishing the necessary relationship and work all the logistical details from the moment you arrive.

POSTGRADUATE MEDICAL PROGRAM

Important Notices for non-Spanish speaking students:

• A compulsory  six moths medically oriented Spanish course is required.
• Accommodation for one year is compulsory.

Please note: Once payment of the master program registration is made, it is not refundable, regardless of the cause of cancellation of the studies.

Applicants must be approved by the competent authorities of the corresponding University of Medical Sciences or Research Center depending. This will depend on the research topic and its possibilities of development in said institutions. To do this, the applicant must present the following:

1. Research topic: The research topics will always be related to scientific problems of the applicant’s country of origin, although exceptionally, depending on the case, the research could be carried out in Cuba.
2. Doctorate requested

Once your application is approved, the applicant will be informed electronically to begin with the relevant procedures.

Program details:

Doctoral programs are 4 years long, but that does not mean that they wouldn’t be carried out in a shorter time frame. However, the minimum time of stay in Cuba, for the realization of the same is one year (in addition to the Spanish language program). The program, and based on the requirements of the process of development of the research and the presentation of the exams of minimum candidate, would be divided into the following:

1. Pe-defense
2. Defense of the degree. (Instruction No. 1 of 2011 of the Ministry of Higher Education)

The qualification that can be obtained, according to the research topic, are the following:

• Doctor of Medical Sciences
• PhD in Stomatological Sciences
• Doctor of Health Sciences
• Doctor of Science in Medical Education
• Doctor of Science in Nursing

The modalities and prices are:

Part-time Doctorate (For all types of Doctorates)

Tuition: $17,7300,00 USD, which includes the following:

• Tuition
• Minimum candidate exams
• Foreign Language
• Social Problems of science

• Pre-defense

• Tutoring and / or advice

Duration: 4 years.

If the applicant is delayed in the development of the execution  of his research, for reasons not attributable to the institution, he could submit a request for an extension for one year or two years, which would be consulted with the National Commission of Scientific Degrees and if approved, he must pay the sum that is calculated based on the extra time to be extended and must remain at least two months in the center in order to conclude the process.

 FULL-TIME PHD PROGRAM

Tuition: 24.730,00 USD, which includes the following:

• Registration
• Minimum candidate exams
• Foreign Language: (languages approved for Spanish speakers English, French and German)
• Social Problems of science
• Specialty
• Pre-defense
• Defense
• Tutoring and / or advice

Duration: 4 years

PROFESSIONAL IMPROVEMENT ACTIVITIES PROGRAMS

If an applicant is interested in other professional improvement activities such as courses, internships, electives, trainings, specialized visits, diplomas and other academic training activities such as master’s and doctoral degrees in Havana, he/ she must send his application to ed.admin@cubaheal-caribbean.com

Deadlines for receiving applications:

Specialties will start each year during the first week of January and September.

The activities of professional outreach (courses, training, internships or graduates, which can be from one week to one year) will start according to the date they are offered or also at the express request of the applicant, if possible.

Applications for specialties will be registered in a database and are only valid for the academic period for which it was requested. If you do not enter this period, you must make another formal request corresponding to the next academic year.

REQUIREMENTS FOR REGISTRATION

1. Photocopy of Professional Degree duly legalized at the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in the home country (please send copy in a separate email to ed.admin@cubaheal-caribbean.com).
2. Passport duly The information contained in the official document is the mandatory reference for verifying the legality of all documents submitted by the applicant and by this will be made all official documents that the institution issues (please send copy in a separate email to ed.admin@cubaheal-caribbean.com).
3. Curriculum Vitae (summary of your academic resume) (please send copy in a separate email to ed.admin@cubaheal-caribbean.com).
4. Photocopy of Scores Certification of the degree in which you graduated, in the case of academic training activities, must be duly legalized at the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in the home country (please send copy in a separate email to ed.admin@cubaheal-caribbean.com).
5. Health Certificate: Is obtained in a period of no more than three months before beginning the studies and legalized at the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in the home country or residence, proving that the applicant does not have any illness that invalidates him/her to study in our country, according to the list of established conditions that are detailed in ANNEX 1. Violation of this requirement implies the immediate return to the home country or residence by applying the discount regulations established for it (please send copy in a separate email to ed.admin@cubaheal-caribbean.com)

Important notices:

• If based on medical evaluation and testing a student, which is done upon the student arrival or later, is diagnosed with an invalidating illness or pregnancy, the student must comply with the immediate return to his/her home country of residence whereby a refund for the remaining fees will be applied.
• All non-Spanish speaking students are required to enroll in a 3 months pre-med program intended to deepen students’ knowledge of the Spanish language related to Biomedical Sciences and also to train the students in the development of the teaching process including the evaluation
• Upon submitting your application, it will be recorded in a database and is only valid for the academic year in which it was requested. Otherwise, if you do not come in that period, you must make a new formal request.

The above prices include the following:

• Program enrollment
• Right of attendance to all practical and theoretical teaching activities
• Right to all the exams including the final state examination Marks certification
• Title duly legalized by the University of Medical Sciences where the student has attended
• studies at the end of the program
• Use of library services during the studies
• Access to sport and cultural areas of the University of Medical Sciences
• Participation in its various manifestations and scientific advisory for research works

The above prices do not include the following:
Non-Spanish Speaking Students:

• Teaching materials
• National or international transportation
• Telephone services and/or internet services
• Books
• Printing
• Immigration procedures in Cuba
• Change of migratory status
• Identity document
• Translations and legalizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or embassies
• Health insurance or medical care
• Paperwork and transfer of the deceased in case of death.

Spanish Speaking Students:

• Accommodation for first year (unless indicated by the student)
• Teaching materials
• National or international transportation
• Telephone services and/or internet services
• Books
• Printing
• Immigration procedures in Cuba
• Change of migratory status
• Identity document
• Translations and legalizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or embassies

Prior and upon the student’s arrival to the Republic of Cuba, CubaHeal Inc. will be responsible for coordinating and concluding the following logistical issues:

• Prior to the student’s arrival:

1. Ensure adequate accommodation in or near the school Keep constant line of communication with the university’s administration to confirm seat reservation
2. airport pickup arrangements.
3. Quarantine arrangements

• Upon Student’s arrival:

1. Airport pickup
2. Quarantine accommodation
3. An orientation session to familiarize the student with:
   • CubaHeal team.
   • local transportation.
   • Other aspects relating to and city’s facilities as well as relevant immigration and legal laws that must be adhered to in the Republic of Cuba
   • Establishment of bank account
4. Stand as a permanent point of reference for the student should a need arises
5. Stand as a permanent point of reference to the student’s relatives overseas should the need arises
